Thyroid ultrasound is used to assess the size, structure, and nodular changes of the thyroid gland. It provides anatomical information but does not determine thyroid hormone function; laboratory tests are required for that purpose. At Ahvar Clinic, ultrasound findings may be evaluated together with an endocrinology consultation.
What it addresses / benefits
- assessment of thyroid volume
- evaluation of tissue structure
- detection of thyroid nodules
- description of nodule characteristics
- follow-up over time.
Preparation
Special preparation is usually not required. Previous thyroid ultrasound and relevant laboratory results should be brought if available.
How the procedure is performed
The patient lies on the back with the front of the neck exposed. The doctor examines both thyroid lobes and the isthmus.
Result / recovery
An ultrasound report is provided. When nodules are present, further management depends on sonographic characteristics and clinical findings.
