Kidney and bladder ultrasound is a non-invasive examination of the urinary system. It may be used for pain, urinary symptoms, suspected stones, urinary tract dilation, and follow-up of previously identified changes. At Ahvar Clinic, findings are interpreted together with clinical and laboratory data.

What it addresses / benefits

  • assessment of kidney structure
  • detection of selected urinary stones
  • evaluation of collecting system dilation
  • examination of the urinary bladder
  • possible assessment of post-void residual urine.

Preparation

A sufficiently full bladder is usually required for bladder assessment. Fluid intake and timing instructions should be confirmed in advance.

How the procedure is performed

The kidneys and bladder are examined through the abdominal and flank regions. When indicated, the bladder may be assessed before and after urination.

Result / recovery

The patient receives a report describing ultrasound findings and identified abnormalities.
