Obstetric ultrasound is an important component of prenatal care. A standard examination can assess fetal growth, position, heartbeat, measurements, placenta, and amniotic fluid and can identify many, but not all, structural abnormalities. At Ahvar Clinic, examination scope is determined by gestational age and clinical purpose.
What it addresses / benefits
- assessment of fetal development
- confirmation or refinement of gestational age
- evaluation of fetal anatomy
- assessment of placental location
- evaluation of amniotic fluid volume.
Preparation
Preparation depends on gestational age and examination type. In early pregnancy, specific instructions regarding bladder filling may be given.
How the procedure is performed
The ultrasound probe is usually placed on the abdominal wall. A transvaginal approach may be used in selected situations. The doctor performs the required measurements and anatomical assessment.
Result / recovery
The patient receives an ultrasound report. Additional specialized assessment may be recommended if findings require clarification.
