Multifocal IOLs use several optical zones or light-distribution principles to provide functional vision at different distances. These lenses may reduce dependence on glasses but may not be appropriate for certain corneal, retinal, or other ocular conditions. At Ahvar Clinic, suitability is determined after comprehensive diagnostic evaluation.
What it addresses / benefits
- surgical treatment of cataract
- implantation of an advanced IOL
- multiple optical focal points
- potential reduction in dependence on glasses at several distances
- individualized lens calculation.
Preparation
A comprehensive assessment of the cornea, retina, refraction, and other eye parameters is required. Multifocal IOLs are not suitable for every patient.
How the procedure is performed
The cataractous lens is removed and replaced with a calculated multifocal IOL. The exact model is chosen after diagnostics and discussion of the patient’s visual needs.
Result / recovery
Visual adaptation develops gradually. Optical phenomena may occur, especially in low-light conditions, so patient selection is important.

An ophthalmologist consultation provides a comprehensive assessment of symptoms, vision, and eye health to determine the need for diagnostics, treatment, or follow-up.

Comprehensive vision diagnostics combines appropriate tests to assess visual acuity, refraction, intraocular pressure, and other relevant eye parameters.

Laser vision correction changes the optical properties of the cornea to correct refractive errors and reduce dependence on glasses or contact lenses.

A cataract is clouding of the eye’s natural lens. When vision is significantly affected, the main treatment is surgical replacement of the cloudy lens with an artificial IOL.
