A mustache transplant is a form of facial hair transplantation in which the patient’s own hair follicles are transferred to the upper-lip area. It may be used for naturally sparse growth, uneven density, localized gaps, or correction of the visual shape of the mustache. Careful planning is important because mustache hair has a characteristic angle and direction of growth. The position of each graft should therefore take existing facial hair and anatomical features into account. Preliminary marking helps define the borders, shape, and planned density. At Ahvar Clinic, mustache transplantation is planned individually after assessment of donor resources and the patient’s existing facial hair pattern. The design is discussed before the procedure, and follicle distribution is selected to support a natural appearance.

What it addresses / benefits

  • correction of insufficient mustache density
  • filling areas with uneven hair growth
  • reshaping the mustache contour
  • use of the patient’s own hair follicles
  • individualized planning of hair growth direction.

Preparation

Before transplantation, the specialist evaluates existing hair growth in the mustache area and the condition of the donor region. The desired shape, width, and density are discussed in advance. Medical history, current medications, and the need for additional examinations are assessed individually.

How the procedure is performed

The specialist marks the future transplantation area and agrees on the shape with the patient. Suitable hair follicles are harvested from the donor region and transferred to the upper-lip area. Particular attention is paid to the angle and direction of growth because hair in this region has a characteristic pattern. After the procedure, the doctor provides aftercare recommendations.

Result / recovery

After transplantation, the treated area requires time for healing and new hair growth. Transplanted hairs may pass through a temporary shedding phase before new growth becomes established. Density and overall appearance are assessed gradually as the natural hair-growth cycle resumes.
