Vitreous hemorrhage may occur with diabetic retinal disease, vascular disorders, retinal tears, trauma, and other conditions. The primary diagnostic goal is to identify the cause and exclude diseases requiring urgent surgery. At Ahvar Clinic, treatment strategy is selected after evaluation of the posterior segment of the eye.
What it addresses / benefits
- identification of the cause of bleeding
- retinal assessment
- monitoring of blood clearance
- treatment of the underlying disease
- vitrectomy when indicated.
Preparation
Sudden visual deterioration requires prompt ophthalmic examination. If the retina cannot be seen because of blood, ocular ultrasound may be used.
How the procedure is performed
Management depends on the cause, amount of hemorrhage, and retinal condition. Observation, treatment of the underlying disease, laser treatment, or surgery may be required.
Result / recovery
The prognosis depends primarily on the cause of the hemorrhage and condition of the retina. The amount of blood alone does not determine the final visual outcome.
