Laser Retinal Photocoagulation

Retinal laser photocoagulation creates controlled laser spots on the retina and is used for selected vascular and peripheral retinal disorders.

Photocoagulation is not performed simply to “improve vision”; it is used to treat specific pathological retinal changes. Laser patterns differ for peripheral retinal tears, diabetic retinal changes, and other diseases. At Ahvar Clinic, retinal laser treatment is performed only after specialized retinal examination.

What it addresses / benefits

  • treatment of selected retinal conditions
  • localized laser treatment
  • treatment around certain retinal tears when indicated
  • application in selected vascular retinal disorders
  • possibility of staged treatment.

Preparation

A retinal examination with pupil dilation and any required fundus diagnostics are performed before treatment.

How the procedure is performed

After local anesthesia, laser energy is applied to predetermined retinal areas. The number and pattern of laser spots depend on the underlying condition.

Result / recovery

Vision may be temporarily affected on the day of treatment because of pupil dilation and the procedure itself. Follow-up depends on the diagnosis.
