Fundus photography is a digital imaging method used to document the posterior eye. The retina, optic nerve head, retinal vessels, and other visible structures may be recorded. A major advantage is the ability to preserve images and compare them objectively during future examinations. At Ahvar Clinic, fundus photography may be used for retinal and optic nerve disorders and as part of comprehensive ophthalmic diagnostics.

What it addresses / benefits

  • documentation of retinal condition
  • imaging of the optic nerve head
  • evaluation of retinal blood vessels
  • comparison of changes over time
  • monitoring of ophthalmic disease.

Preparation

Pupil dilation may be required depending on the camera and diagnostic purpose. After dilation, near vision and light sensitivity may temporarily change.

How the procedure is performed

The patient fixes their gaze in a specified direction while a specialized camera captures images of the ocular fundus. Images are saved for medical analysis and future comparison.

Result / recovery

The ophthalmologist receives documented images of the fundus structures. The photographs are interpreted together with clinical examination and other diagnostic tests.
