Echobiometry

Ocular echobiometry uses ultrasound to measure anatomical eye parameters and may be used in planning cataract surgery and other ophthalmic procedures.

Echobiometry allows measurement of selected anatomical dimensions of the eye using ultrasound. In cataract surgery, these measurements may contribute to the data required for calculating the artificial intraocular lens. Modern IOL calculations may also incorporate other forms of biometric measurement. At Ahvar Clinic, the required measurements are selected according to the diagnostic goal.

What it addresses / benefits

  • measurement of axial eye length
  • assessment of anatomical parameters
  • collection of data for ophthalmic surgical calculations
  • preparation for IOL implantation
  • objective instrumental examination.

Preparation

Special preparation is usually not required. The examination method depends on the equipment and clinical purpose.

How the procedure is performed

Eye parameters are measured with an ultrasound device. The values are recorded automatically for further analysis.

Result / recovery

The data are interpreted by the ophthalmologist together with other examinations, including during surgical planning.
