Flora Swab Collection

A flora swab is a laboratory test of material collected from the genital tract to assess vaginal flora and signs of inflammation.

Microscopic examination of a vaginal swab can evaluate selected characteristics of the vaginal flora and signs of inflammation. PCR, culture, or other diagnostic methods may be required when a specific infection is suspected. At Ahvar Clinic, the test panel is selected according to the clinical question.

What it addresses / benefits

  • assessment of vaginal flora
  • detection of inflammatory changes
  • evaluation of cellular findings
  • support in investigating discharge and discomfort
  • guidance for additional testing when needed.

Preparation

Preparation instructions should be confirmed in advance. Vaginal medications and some treatments may affect the test result.

How the procedure is performed

During a gynecological examination, material is collected from selected sites with a sterile instrument and sent to the laboratory.

Result / recovery

Results are interpreted by the doctor together with symptoms. A standard flora swab does not detect every possible infection.
