Colposcopy

Colposcopy provides a detailed magnified view of the cervix and helps identify areas that may require further assessment or biopsy.

Colposcopy is used for detailed examination of the cervix, vagina, and vulva. It is often recommended after abnormal cervical cytology or HPV screening findings. If a suspicious area is identified, a small tissue sample may be collected for histological examination. At Ahvar Clinic, the need for and extent of colposcopy are determined by the gynecologist.

What it addresses / benefits

  • magnified assessment of the cervix
  • evaluation after abnormal screening results
  • identification of suspicious areas
  • possibility of targeted biopsy
  • follow-up of previously identified cervical changes.

Preparation

Timing should be coordinated with the doctor. Pregnancy, active bleeding, and use of vaginal medications should be reported.

How the procedure is performed

The cervix is examined through a colposcope, an optical magnification device. Diagnostic solutions may be applied, and a biopsy may be taken from suspicious areas when indicated.

Result / recovery

No special recovery is usually required when biopsy is not performed. Mild discharge or discomfort may occur after biopsy.
