Foam sclerotherapy increases the contact area between the sclerosant and the inner vessel wall. Depending on venous anatomy, it may be used for the GSV, SSV, accessory veins, or other selected vessels. Treatment selection should be based on duplex ultrasound findings.
What it addresses / benefits
- treatment of truncal venous reflux
- chemical vein obliteration
- ultrasound guidance
- no thermal energy
- minimally invasive treatment.
Preparation
Duplex ultrasound is required to confirm reflux and map the veins planned for treatment.
How the procedure is performed
Foamed sclerosant is injected into the pathological venous trunk under ultrasound guidance. The foam contacts the vessel wall and promotes subsequent closure.
Result / recovery
Vein closure is assessed over time. Additional treatment sessions may sometimes be required.
