EVLA / Laser Treatment of Varicose Veins

EVLA is a minimally invasive treatment for venous reflux in which an abnormal vein is closed from within using laser energy under ultrasound guidance.

EVLA is an endothermal method used to treat varicose veins. Laser energy produces controlled thermal injury to the inner vein wall, resulting in closure of the abnormal vessel. The method is used after venous reflux has been confirmed by duplex ultrasound. At Ahvar Clinic, the treatment area and extent of EVLA are individualized by the vascular surgeon.

What it addresses / benefits

  • treatment of pathological venous reflux
  • closure of an incompetent superficial vein
  • avoids traditional stripping of the entire vein
  • ultrasound-guided treatment
  • relatively quick return to activity.

Preparation

Duplex ultrasound and venous mapping are performed before treatment. The doctor evaluates venous anatomy, deep vein patency, and potential contraindications.

How the procedure is performed

A laser fiber is inserted into the vein under ultrasound guidance. Laser energy is then delivered along the abnormal segment, causing controlled closure of the vessel. Blood flow is redirected through functioning veins.

Result / recovery

Bruising, tightness, or tenderness along the treated vein may occur. Follow-up assessment is required after the procedure.
