Radiofrequency ablation and endovenous laser ablation are both endothermal treatments for varicose veins. Both aim to close an incompetent venous trunk but use different energy sources. At Ahvar Clinic, the choice between RFA and EVLA is based on anatomy and the clinical situation.
What it addresses / benefits
- treatment of truncal venous reflux
- endovenous thermal ablation
- ultrasound guidance
- minimally invasive access
- alternative to laser ablation in suitable cases.
Preparation
Duplex ultrasound and mapping of the pathological venous segment are performed before treatment.
How the procedure is performed
A specialized radiofrequency catheter is positioned inside the vein. Under ultrasound guidance, controlled thermal energy is applied segment by segment to close the vessel.
Result / recovery
The treated vein gradually closes and is removed from pathological circulation. Follow-up is required.

EVLA is a minimally invasive treatment for venous reflux in which an abnormal vein is closed from within using laser energy under ultrasound guidance.
Learn moreSclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a specialized solution into an abnormal vein to damage the inner vessel wall and promote subsequent closure.

Miniphlebectomy removes selected varicose tributaries through very small skin punctures and is often used together with treatment of truncal reflux.
