The great saphenous vein is one of the major superficial veins of the lower limb and a common source of varicose reflux. When incompetent, EVLA allows the pathological segment to be excluded from circulation without traditional vein stripping. Unilateral and bilateral procedures should be treated as pricing variants of the same medical service.
What it addresses / benefits
- elimination of reflux in the GSV
- closure of the abnormal venous trunk
- minimally invasive access
- ultrasound guidance
- possibility of combined treatment of tributaries.
Preparation
Duplex mapping of the GSV and its tributaries is performed before treatment. The length of pathological reflux is determined.
How the procedure is performed
A laser fiber is introduced into the GSV and positioned under ultrasound guidance. The affected venous segment is then treated with controlled thermal energy.
Result / recovery
The treated vein gradually undergoes closure and remodeling. Varicose tributaries may be treated during the same session or separately.

EVLA is a minimally invasive treatment for venous reflux in which an abnormal vein is closed from within using laser energy under ultrasound guidance.
Learn moreSclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a specialized solution into an abnormal vein to damage the inner vessel wall and promote subsequent closure.

Miniphlebectomy removes selected varicose tributaries through very small skin punctures and is often used together with treatment of truncal reflux.
