Minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery is often preferred for suitable ovarian cysts that appear benign. A different approach may be necessary when there are features suspicious for malignancy or when the lesion is very large. Preparation
Ultrasound characteristics and the risk of malignancy are evaluated before surgery. A different surgical approach may be required if the lesion is suspicious.
How the procedure is performed
A camera and surgical instruments are introduced through small abdominal incisions. The cyst is separated and removed while preserving healthy ovarian tissue when feasible.
Result / recovery
Recovery depends on cyst size and surgical extent. Removed tissue is submitted for histological examination.
