Crossectomy with thrombectomy is not a routine procedure for uncomplicated varicose veins. It is used in selected complicated situations when the thrombus location and risk of propagation justify surgical treatment. Unilateral and bilateral versions represent different treatment volumes of the same procedure.
What it addresses / benefits
- treatment of selected thrombotic complications of superficial veins
- surgical thrombus removal
- interruption of a pathological venous connection
- possible urgent surgical management
- individualized surgical extent.
Preparation
Vascular imaging is required to determine the location and extent of thrombosis.
How the procedure is performed
The surgeon exposes the relevant venous segment, interrupts it at the required level, and removes thrombotic material when indicated.
Result / recovery
Postoperative venous monitoring and prevention of recurrent thrombosis are required according to the diagnosis.
