The term “atheroma” is commonly used to describe an epidermal or similar skin cyst. For elective surgery, removal of the cyst wall as well as the contents helps reduce recurrence risk. At Ahvar Clinic, management depends on inflammation and cyst size.
What it addresses / benefits
- removal of a subcutaneous scalp lesion
- treatment of recurrent inflammation when indicated
- removal of the cyst wall
- possibility of histological examination
- localized surgical access.
Preparation
The doctor evaluates lesion size, skin condition, and signs of inflammation. Management may differ when acute infection or suppuration is present.
How the procedure is performed
The cyst is dissected from surrounding tissue through a small incision and removed. The wound is then closed as appropriate.
Result / recovery
A small scar remains. Hair surrounding the operative area may temporarily make wound care more difficult.
