Keloid scars result from excessive scar tissue growth and may extend beyond the original injury. Placing internal sutures helps reduce tissue tension, which lowers the risk of recurrent scarring. At Ahvar Clinic, management is individualized and takes previous treatment into account.
What it addresses / benefits
- removal of extensive keloid scars
- reduction of tissue tension using internal sutures
- improvement of contour and appearance
- reduced risk of recurrent scarring
- individualized surgical planning.
Preparation
The size and location of keloid scars, tendency toward scarring, previous treatment, and general condition are assessed.
How the procedure is performed
Keloid scars are excised within healthy tissue, and internal (buried) sutures are placed to approximate tissues and reduce tension.
Result / recovery
A new scar forms. Keloids tend to recur even after surgery, and this risk is discussed beforehand.
